Lake Mburo National Park is home to over 300 bird species, making it one of the best spots in Uganda for seeing birds that live in acacia trees. You can also find forest birds in Rubanga Forest. Bird enthusiasts will enjoy the swamps, where six special papyrus birds, like the colorful papyrus gonolek and the blue-headed coucal, can be seen. The park also hosts some southern bird species, such as the black-collared barbet and the bare-faced go-away bird, which are at the northern edge of their range. Migratory birds visit the park from November to April.

Best Time for Bird Watching

You can enjoy bird watching at Lake Mburo all year. The least rain falls in June and July, making it easier to explore. March and April get the most rain, which can make the roads and trails muddy and hard to use, limiting your bird-watching time. Migratory birds are present from November to April.
